Transportation Services Families Trust

People and businesses have been offering senior transportation services for decades. But there frequently seems to be something missing during these rides, namely the training required for drivers to care for the special assistance seniors often require.

While it’s easy to pick someone up and drop them off at their requested destination, it takes a higher level of training to properly assist a senior rider during their trip.

That’s exactly why Envoy America has made an exerted effort to develop the best Companion Driver training program out there. The majority of our drivers are 50+ years old and have previous experience working with seniors. With a training emphasis on safety, extra assistance, and compassion, each Companion Driver is fully prepared with the tools they need to provide the most superior senior companion services possible.

Take a look at each area we focus on to see why Envoy’s Companion Driver training is the best in the business.

Safety Training for Our Drivers

In Envoy America’s elderly companion services, safety is the top priority for our companion driver training program. Each of our drivers goes through defensive driving training to make them more aware of potential road hazards and the importance of following basic traffic laws. While getting each senior to their destination safely is a vital aspect of our senior ride services, there is much more to it than that.

Each companion driver is also trained in first aid and has been CPR certified to prepare them for any health-related issues that may arise during a ride. They know how to handle these situations properly and when to contact the necessary professionals to assist them if needed.

Because of our training program, Envoy America is proud to be the FIRST AND ONLY RIDESHARING COMPANY to receive the distinctive Dementia SMART® Award from the Dementia Society of America®. This award recognizes and celebrates businesses and organizations large-scale efforts to be more Dementia-friendly in their offerings. All Envoy America Companion drivers much matriculate through numerous training modules and certification, including Dementia education under the instruction of Jan Dougherty, MS, RN, FAAN, CEO and Founder, TravAlz and Former Director, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute.

We even go as far as training our Companion Drivers to know how to safely transfer a senior from their wheelchair into a vehicle and then back into their wheelchair. All of this training prepares them for possible scenarios that may come up throughout their trip.
Assistance Training.

Envoy Goes the Extra Mile

We understand that seniors often need help with everyday tasks others may take for granted. Our Companion Driver training program is designed to help each driver recognize when one of their riders needs additional assistance.

Instead of simply waiting in the parking lot or near the entrance, our Companion Drivers will come straight to the front door and walk the senior to their car. They will open the door and help them into the vehicle, ensuring they are comfortable and secure. But our senior companion services don’t stop there.

Throughout the entire trip, the Companion Drivers will be there to assist with every task at every location. They will happily make multiple stops and wait in the car, so the senior doesn’t have to wait for their next ride to show up afterward. If the senior is going grocery shopping or running other errands, the companion driver will go in with them to lift items and reach things that may be too high.

Compassion Training

It can be difficult to teach an adult how to show compassion for others, which is why we hire Companion Drivers who already have a passion for senior companion services. But our Companion Driver training enhances the love they already have for seniors by teaching them additional skills to make the ride more enjoyable.

Our Companion Drivers are trained to listen and communicate with seniors to help them feel comfortable and carefree during the trip. They are taught how to have more meaningful conversations and to make the ride feel more like a day out with a friend than simply a senior ride service. Every Companion Driver is patient and readily available to be there for their rider as much or as little as they need to be.
