The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix recently launched a program called the Jewish Federation Senior Rides Program due to a lack of reliable and accessible means of transportation within the elderly community. The Jewish Federation is working towards raising more money for the program in order to continue to offer more assisted transportation to seniors in need.
Seniors in Phoenix Are For The Federation Program
Seniors are using the Federation Program for rides for various reasons. Each month, community members using the senior driving service program take between 150-170 rides. Half of these rides are used to bring seniors to medical appointments, and the other half of rides are for trips to the Jewish Community Center, synagogues, grocery shopping and social outings. The inception of this program began with the goal of bringing a greater quality of life to seniors who cannot drive or feel unsafe driving themselves.
Through the Federation Program, seniors only pay for 25 percent of the cost, and the Federation covers the other 75 percent.
The program is open to Jewish individuals who are 65 and older, and they are able to take up to four rides per month per household. The Federation is working to raise money in order to provide transportation to a larger number of seniors.
